A $60 spread isn't $60 of profit. Between selling fees, payment processing, and shipping, a healthy-looking flip can shrink to pocket change. If you don't price around fees, the marketplace quietly takes your margin.
Rough selling fees by platform
These move over time, so always check current rates, but as a guide:
- eBay: around 13% plus a listing element
- Poshmark: 20% flat on anything over a small threshold
- Depop: roughly 10% plus payment processing
- Grailed: around 9% plus payment processing
- Vinted: low or no seller fee, buyer pays protection
Don't forget shipping
Shipping a jacket or a pair of shoes is not cheap, and it comes straight out of your margin. Factor it in every time, and remember heavier items eat more.
The one rule
Do the math before you buy: resale price, minus selling fee, minus payment cut, minus shipping, minus what you paid.
If that number isn't comfortably positive, it's not a flip. It's a hobby.
Glimpse does this automatically. Every profit figure you see already has fees and shipping subtracted, so "profit" means what actually lands in your account, not a wishful spread.
